Ever wonder what it looks like behind the scenes at a pet session? Now is your chance to see behind the curtain. It's really not all that exciting, but I'd like to give you an opportunity to see how things often look and what your resulting photos look like.
First lets start on a location session.
The first thing to note is that 90% of my sessions happen with dogs on a leash. There are several reasons for this.
The first reason for a leash: Sometimes my sessions occur in busy locations like a tulip or lavender field where there are a lot of distractions including children, other dogs and often roads nearby. I want to keep your dog safe!
A second reason for leashes is to keep the location safe. When we are photographing around delicate flowers, I want to keep the plants safe from your dog. I know your dog means well, but the tulips really don't recover well from being stepped on or laid on. LOL. I also want to ensure that these farms continue to welcome me back year after year so I do the best I can to not ruin the flowers.
The leash is also instrumental in keeping your dog in the spot where they will look the best. Even if it just keeps them there for a few seconds, it is usually all I need to get the shot.
Leashes get removed during editing after you've chosen your favorite images.
I also do water sessions. Did you know that? I don my waders and head on into the water with your dog. The waders of course keep me dry but also allow me to get low to the water to get more interesting angles and also allows me to maneuver to spots so I have a better background or the more interesting light.
Here are some behind the scenes photos at local farms and water with a sample AFTER image.
Studio sessions are a little different. If your dog doesn't wander too far, they can be off leash in my studio. That gives your dog the opportunity to sniff the space and become acquainted with their surroundings. During this time, it helps me gauge how relaxed your dog is. I will often sit on the floor with my camera so the dog can come sniff me and my equipment. Treats are usually involved at this stage too. I might trigger my lights just to see how your dog reacts.
I have lots of seating/staging options for your dog including stools, ottomans, small couches, chairs. I also have several background options in various fun colors. We can also use my bubble blower to get some fun photos too.
When you are in my studio, you and your dog (s) get the space all to yourselves. No other dogs or distractions to worry about.
Below I'm showcasing some behind the scenes at my studio.
