Make a Splash: Why Every New Hampshire Water Loving Dog Deserves a Summer Photo Session
There is something magical about watching a dog experience pure joy.
The moment their paws hit the water, tails start wagging a little harder, ears flap in the breeze, and suddenly they're completely in their element. Whether they're chasing their favorite toy through a quiet river, creating enormous splashes in the shallows, or running along the shore of the ocean, these are the moments that perfectly capture who they are.
If your dog lives for the water, a summer water session may be their perfect New Hampshire photography experience.
More Than Portraits, It's an Adventure
Unlike a traditional portrait session, a water session isn't about asking your dog to sit perfectly or stay still.
It's about letting them be a dog.
We'll spend our time playing, exploring, splashing, retrieving toys, and celebrating everything that makes your companion unique. The result is a collection of joyful, authentic images that showcase your dog's personality in a way that's impossible to recreate in a studio.
I even pull on my waders and get right into the water alongside them, allowing me to photograph from their perspective. Whether they're charging through the shallows with water flying everywhere or making a spectacular leap off a dock, I'm right there to capture every unforgettable moment.
Why We Start Early
Most of my New Hampshire water sessions are scheduled early in the morning, and for good reason.
The temperatures are cooler for both you and your dog, the light is beautifully soft, and many of the locations are wonderfully quiet before the crowds arrive. That peaceful atmosphere allows your dog to relax, play freely, and enjoy the experience without distractions.
The combination of calm water, golden morning light, and an excited dog creates photographs that simply can't be duplicated later in the day.
Safety Always Comes First
While these sessions are all about fun, your dog's safety is always my highest priority.
I carefully choose locations with clean water and shallow access points that make getting in and out easy for both dogs and people. Before every session, I check water levels and current conditions to ensure they're safe for photography.
Some sessions take place at dog-friendly public beaches, while others are held on private properties where I've received permission to photograph. Every location is selected with safety, comfort, and beautiful scenery in mind.
What to Bring
To help everyone have the best experience, I recommend bringing:
- Your dog's favorite floating toy or retrieving toy
- Plenty of treats
- A long leash
- Water shoes if you'd like to join your dog in the water
- Clothes you don't mind getting wet or dirty
- A towel for both you and your pup for the ride home
Don't worry if your dog isn't perfectly trained, I have plenty of tricks (and patience!) to create beautiful images while they simply enjoy themselves.
Turning Summer Memories into Artwork
These sessions create some of the most dramatic artwork you'll ever hang in your home.
Imagine a large statement piece featuring your dog exploding through the water with droplets frozen in midair, ears flying, eyes sparkling, and that unmistakable look of happiness across their face. Every splash tells the story of a day they absolutely loved.
These aren't just photographs.
They're a celebration of your dog's adventurous spirit and a reminder of the happiest days you shared together.
Summer Doesn't Last Forever
New Hampshire summers are far too short, and before we know it, the rivers begin to cool and another season has slipped away.
If your dog lights up at the sight of water, don't wait another year to create these memories. They deserve a day dedicated entirely to doing what they love most—and you'll walk away with artwork that brings that joy back every time you see it.
If you're looking for a New Hampshire dog photographer who specializes in creating joyful, personality-filled portraits of dogs who love the water, I'd love to help you plan an unforgettable river, lake, pond, or ocean adventure this summer.
