Welcome to My New Studio: Designed for Dogs, Built with Love
For years, my photography studio lived in an unlikely place: my garage.
It served its purpose well, and countless beautiful portraits were created there. But it was always a garage that happened to house a photography setup, not a true studio designed specifically for the experience I wanted to provide my clients.
When we moved into our new home, everything changed.
We specifically built our new home with high ceilings in the basement. With high ceilings and ample space, it offered the opportunity to create something I had been dreaming about for years: a dedicated photography studio designed from the ground up for dogs and the people who love them.
Three months later, that dream is now a reality.
What makes this studio especially meaningful is that it wasn't built by a contractor. It was built by my husband.
Together, we designed the space, imagining every detail and how it could serve both my creative vision and my clients' experience. Then, in the evenings and weekends around his full-time job, he brought it to life. He handled everything from rough carpentry and finish work to painting and flooring. Watching the space transform from an empty basement into a fully finished professional studio was nothing short of amazing.
The result is a nearly 900-square-foot studio that feels spacious, welcoming, and endlessly versatile.
One of the biggest advantages of the new space is flexibility. Multiple shooting areas allow me to create a wide variety of looks, from colorful, playful portraits to elegant and timeless formal images. Whether a client wants something bright and whimsical or sophisticated and classic, the studio can accommodate it. Combined with the outdoor lawn and garden spaces available on the property, the creative possibilities are nearly limitless.
The studio was also designed with comfort in mind.
As much as we love outdoor sessions, they can come with challenges. Weather, bugs, distractions, and encounters with unfamiliar dogs can sometimes make portrait sessions more stressful than they need to be. Inside the studio, those concerns disappear. The lighting is controlled, the environment is consistent, and every session can proceed without worrying about what Mother Nature has planned.
Most importantly, it was designed to be a place where dogs can feel safe.
The waterproof flooring is practical for real life with pets, and the enclosed environment gives dogs the chance to relax and settle in. They can explore, sniff around, and become comfortable before we ever start creating portraits. If a dog could leave a review of the new studio, I imagine it would say something like:
"I felt safe here. Nobody rushed me. I had plenty of time to sniff everything and get comfortable before my close up." That comfort translates directly into better photographs.
The space also allows me to accommodate dogs of all sizes. Furniture and props have been selected to work beautifully whether your companion is a tiny puppy or a giant breed. Every detail has been chosen to ensure that the focus remains exactly where it belongs, on your dog.
One of my favorite features is having dedicated wall space to display my artwork and product offerings. Seeing finished pieces displayed as they were intended helps clients envision how their own portraits can become meaningful artwork in their homes.
This studio represents more than just a new location. It represents growth, possibility, and a commitment to creating the best experience I can for my clients and their dogs.
And I can't wait to welcome you inside.
To celebrate the opening of the new studio, I'll be hosting a Grand Opening Event on July 25 featuring special discounted sessions. It's the perfect opportunity to experience the new space and create beautiful artwork featuring your dog. Not available on July 25th? Contact me to book your own private session.
After years of dreaming, planning, building, and a lot of hard work, the doors are finally open.
I can't wait to see what we create together.
